The brazen dumpers who foul the bushland around Wollongong’s far north are at it again, with what looks like a whole kitchen – including asbestos – found on a fire trail at Helensburgh.

The large load was discovered several hundred metres down a fire trail that comes off Lawrence Hargrave Drive, heading towards Kellys Creek.
Strangely, this dumped load was found on the other side of a padlocked chain blocking access to the fire trail, Helensburgh resident Alan Bond said.

“This is also in a dry watercourse that leads to Kellys Creek, headwaters of the Hacking River that flow through [to] the Royal National Park,” Mr Bond said.
“Rainwater washing through this also won’t help the Hacking River or the wildlife that drinks from it.”
Illegal dumping has been the scourge of Wollongong’s outlying suburbs, where the culprits are often not spotted in the act.
