Day, who won his sixth Coolangatta Gold earlier this year, had a disappointing start to the series last month after finishing back in 11th place in round one.
He was back to his best in one-to-two metre swell on the Sunshine Coast.
Day held off new series leader Matt Poole to put himself back in contention while Gold Coast ironman Tanyn Lyndon trailed the pair home to round out the podium.
It helped Day defend the event victory that he claimed at the same beach twelve months ago.
Meanwhile. clubmates Harriet Brown and Georgia Miller fought out the finish in the women’s event, with Brown narrowly edging out her training partner. The series will come to the Illawarra next, with round three set to take place at North Wollongong beach on December 15.
