While many junior athletes take time off from athletics once the summer season has come to an end, Delta Amidzosvki was doing the exact opposite.

Competing in her final year of primary school athletics, Amidzovski knuckled down throughout the winter, determined to finish year six on a high.
The training paid off for the 12-year-old, with Amidzovski winning four gold medals, setting two state records and winning the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee trophy for most outstanding athlete at the recent NSW PSSA Athletics Championships.
While hopeful of her chances at the competition, even Amidzovski admits she didn’t anticipate she would have so much success.
“It was pretty amazing,” Amidzovski said. “Considering I do train a lot it was a great accomplishment for me. I did really well last year, but to top it off this year as my final year in primary school was pretty good.”
Amidzovski won gold in the girls ages 12-13 100 metres, 200m, long jump and high jump, with the state records coming in the long jump and high jump. She also contested the 4x100m relay with her St Pauls Albion Park teammates.
Perhaps her most impressive performance was the long jump, in which all six of her leaps surpassed the previous state record, a record that had stood for 23 years.
Amidzovski now has one last competition as a primary school athlete, the Australian Championships in Melbourne later this month.
While her results suggest Amidzovski is a medal contender, she’s simply hoping to set new personal bests.
“My goal is to set new PBs and just see how I go.”
Delta’s mother Becky is extremely proud of her daughter’s achievements, but the most pleasing aspect to her was Delta’s attitude throughout the competition.
“She was acknowledged by three officials for her humble personality and great sportsmanship towards other athletes,” Becky said. “It’s the nicest thing to hear as parents, to know she’s still a great child. It’s not always about achievement, hearing good things about the person is just as rewarding.”
