Illawarra community fundraising and public relations coordinator for the Salvation Army, Karen Walker, said Christmas is one of the hardest times of year for Australians doing it tough.
However, she said just a small contribution can make a real difference in “helping us to give hope where it’s needed most”.
“For just $29 you can provide food on the table and a present under the Christmas tree to help give hope to someone in need this Christmas,” Ms Walker said.
The Salvation Army Illawarra’s annual ‘Christmas Cheer’ operation aims to provide toys and food for those in need.
Donations of toys and non-perishable food items can be made at their offices at 11-13 Burelli Street, Wollongong during business hours.
Monetary donations can be made via the salvos.org.au website.
Those requiring assistance at Christmas with food and gifts can phone the Salvos on 4227 2994.
Meanwhile, the 2018 Vinnies Christmas Appeal was recently launched.
Donations to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal can be made at vinnies.org.au, by phoning 131 812, or at any Vinnies shop.
