Kyle Proctor, 21, was arrested about 2am on Sunday after police witnessed him punch the security officer in the face moments after he was refused entry to the CBD pub because of his level of intoxication.
Proctor was charged with assault and resisting arrest and ordered to front court on Sunday morning, where he was refused bail overnight.
A second bail application heard in court on Monday morning was successful, however Magistrate Mark Douglass imposed several strict conditions as part of Proctor’s release.
They include that he report to Wollongong Police Station daily, attend counselling sessions, including the Watershed substance addiction program, not drink any alcohol and stay out of all licensed premises.
He was also required to put up an $1800 surety.
According to police documents tendered in court, Proctor “was well-affected by alcohol” when he tried to gain entry to the Grand Hotel about 1.45am.
The two security guards at the door refused him entry because he was drunk, prompting Proctor to begin arguing with them.
Police, who were at the pub for an unrelated matter, said they saw Proctor become aggressive with the two men before punching one of the guards in the mouth.
Proctor then took off down Burelli Street, with police and one of the security guards giving chase.
Officers caught him and eventually arrested him after a brief struggle, court documents said.
The case will return to court next month for mention.
