The Wollongong-raised cake queen, who became an international hit after taking the drip-icing technique to wild new places, married Sydney graphic designer Simon James in an intimate backyard wedding at her parents’ Woonona home on Saturday, November 3.
The pair exchanged vows in front of immediate family after seven years together.
The bride made three dreamy cakes for the occasion: pandan and toasted coconut, chocolate and coffee-caramel-macadamia and funfetti cake.
“We laughed, we feasted, we kicked off our shoes, & we enjoyed cake!” Sabbath posted on Instagram.
“Kiddies & doggos were running amok. It was absolutely PERFECT.”
The groom also took to social media to share the happy news.
“Seven years together, and now we’re married!,” James wrote.
“On Saturday we made it official in Kat’s folks Woonona backyard, with a small family group, a huge amount of delicious home cooked food... and of course, 3 cakes. An absolutely awesome day!”
A week later it was time to celebrate with friends at a ridiculously fun-looking wedding bash at Balmain Hotel.
Working to the theme Til Death Do We Party!, Sabbath made a cake to reflect her idiosyncratic style – four tiers of pastel perfection, covered with rows of edgy spikes and topped with a morningstar-style ball.
The renowned cake designer described the inside as “layers of banana and chocolate cake, filled with hazelnut espresso and salted caramel Swiss meringue buttercream and roasted macadamias. Decorated with vanilla bean Swiss meringue buttercream and white chocolate studs.
“As daunting as this task seemed (& as much as I probably shouldn’t have), I MADE OUR WEDDING CAKE - & survived!”
