The new Kembla Street nightspot is the third venture for three former Orange school students who didn’t become best mates when they frequented Howlin’ Wolf Bar when they were uni students.
The were all 25 when they later acquired the whiskey bar in lower Crown Street when they discovered it was for sale and then in August took ownership of Dagwood in Market Street.
The new bar for Ben Abraham, Luke Symons and Scott Mileto is located a short walk between the other two and will be run by a new fourth partner Jared Huk who recently ran a bar in North Queensland.
Births and Deaths is open from 4pm to midnight Wednesday to Sunday and will have some jaffles and other dishes such as tapas.
Births and Deaths was born when it was noticed the former Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Kembla St was available. The Sydney style cocktail bar also gets its name from the sustainable use of ingredients.
Their goal is to continue to provide something different in each venue.
Howlin’ Wolf will continue to have dancing and live music, Dagwood will focus more on food and Births and Deaths will be known for its unique cocktails. It will also have a sustainable focus with ingredients used in different ways for drinks and food.
Births and Deaths will also have table service with guests designated a seat when they arrive.
Mr Mileto said they have named the group of bars they own “the good times only group”.
