For five days, Wendi Reis’ works will be on exhibition at the Clifton School of Arts.
Artists Wendi Reis and Lucy Crealy have combined their talents to bring the beauty of the Illawarra coastline and its surrounding bush in an exhibition of paintings to Clifton School of Arts from November 14-18.
The exhibition, Sunlight, explores the effect of sunlight on the Australian bush and also on the coastline.
Reis loves to paint the Australian bush, with its beauty enhanced by light shining on leaves and grasses.
Guest artist Crealy paints large and vibrant seascapes with eye-catching colours.
She also restores and paints beach scenes on surfboards.
All are welcome to attend the afternoon with the artists on Saturday, November 17, which includes drinks and nibbles, from 1.30pm to 4pm.
THURSDAY, November 15
Starting conversations about mental health
An Illawarra-based clinical psychologist is hoping a range of artistic mediums will spark conversations regarding mental health.
Last year, Dr Nick Marsden curated his first exhibition, Illuminate, in Wollongong.
Dr Marsden said he was surprised by the large number of Illawarra creatives who asked if they could be involved with the project, which sought to help raise awareness of mental health-related issues.
Therefore, the exhibition is returning for a second year, with more artists involved.
Paintings, drawings, digital media, print media and live performance art will all be featured.
Illuminate’s opening night is on Thursday from 5.30pm to 8.30pm at Timber Mill Studios, Bulli (located at 2-6 Molloy Street).
There will be a musical performance by Lo Roberts and Ewen P.G.
The exhibition will also be on display over the weekend, from 9am to 5pm daily.
Mayor’s fashion parade
The Shellharbour Mayor’s Fashion Parade will take place at 7pm.
The event will be held at the Shellharbour Civic Centre and include a parade by Veducci Fashion, raffles, goodie bags and other fundraising activities
Tickets are $35 each which includes a light supper and a glass of sparkling on arrival.
All money raised will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.
Mayor Marianne Saliba said the event promised to be an enjoyable evening featuring Australian-made fashion for women of all ages and sizes.
FRIDAY, November 16
Night of comedy
Oh Dang! Espresso on Windang Road, Windang is hosting a comedy night.
Cam Knight is the headliner, and there will be local support acts as well. Tickets are $35 each, including food and are available in-store.
The business will be donating some of the proceeds from the night to the Illawarra Convoy.
Shellharbour LIbrary
The library will host a ‘Make It! Take It!’ event, ‘Recycled Magazine Bowls’ from 10.30am.
You can make something beautiful while making a difference to the planet. Create beautiful bowls from old magazines to celebrate National Recycling Week 2018.

SATURDAY, November 17
Music for a cause
Aimee Hannan (Team Delta on this year’s season of The Voice) will launch her second album at the Illawarra Music Foundry, Illawarra Leagues Club on Church Street in Wollongong from 7.30pm.
Support acts include Dear Violet and Grace Mae/
She will be raising money to help with the production of the book Celebrate T21.
This is a book about celebrating our children, diversity, uniqueness, being open minded, positivity and joy.
It was put together to empower families with either a prenatal or post-natal diagnosis of Trisomy 21 (T21), more commonly known as Down syndrome.
Hospital re-development official opening
The completion of Shellharbour Private Hospital’s new $7 million redevelopment will be marked with an official opening by Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba on Saturday, November 17.
The multi-million dollar redevelopment has seen the introduction of a new, interactive Stryker theatre, 30 single rooms with ensuites, three twin rooms and a unique patient flow design, undertaken to improve patient safety, streamline efficiency through the hospital and reduce operating times and overall hospital stay.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony is at 1pm.
There will also be community tours of the new facilities, face- painting, jumping castle and sausage sizzle at the opening.
Taking off
A fascinating world of flight simulation and online flying comes to Illawarra Regional Airport, when HARS Aviation Museum hosts the Oz Flight Simulation Expo at Albion Park on November 17-18.
It’s a rare opportunity to see the latest and experience the greatest in-flight simulation technology.
Organisers will allow visitors to explore the world of online flying and air traffic controlling while also hearing first-hand from experts in the field to find out more.

After paying entry to HARS Aviation Museum, tickets to attend Oz Flight Sim Expo can be purchased for $10 (adults), $7 (seniors, concession) and $4 (children).
Grappling with success
Illawarra-based pro-wrestling promotion Rock ‘n’ Roll Wrestling will showcase their hard-hitting, high-flying action this weekend.
Their latest show will run from 6pm to 8pm, and take place at Unit 6, 20-22 Marshall Street, Dapto.

SUNDAY, November 18
Convoy rides again
The 14th annual i98fm Illawarra Convoy is on.
The annual fundraiser will have a new home for the free family fun day, Illawarra Regional Airport.
The move is because of major works being undertaken at Croome Road Sporting Complex to make way for the Albion Park Bypass.
In 2017, $1.9 million was raised for the Illawarra Community Foundation to help local people. A total of 714 trucks and 931 motorbikes traveled 70km from West Cliff Colliery.
During the last 13 years almost $11.5 million has been raised.
In 2018, the Convoy will begin at West Cliff Colliery at 8am before coming down Mt Ousley through Warrawong and past Stockland Shellharbour, before finishing at Illawarra Regional Airport for the free family fun day.
Afternoon of music
Gerringong Music Club will welcome talented professional musicians from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music from 2pm at Gerringong Town Hall.
Narelle Yeo (soprano), David Miller (piano) and Emma Sholl (flute) will be performing a range of music by Bach, Delibes, Saint-Saens and Strauss with some lighter theatre and cabaret music by Bolcom and Bernstein.
Doors open at 1.30pm. Tickets are $25 at the door for visitors, free for members, students and children.
Afternoon tea available.
