And getting dropped off by your parents just won’t do if you are trying to impress the ladies.
So when your year adviser says no mode of transport is off the table, Kanahooka High School student Jordan Chahal knew exactly what to do.
And his mates Alexander Faughlin, Trent Cooper and Kane Hellyer weren’t about to let Jordan grab the limelight just himself.
On Wednesday night the four said goodbye to their school years in style by taking a helicopter flight to their year 12 formal at Port Kembla Golf Club.
At $180 per person, the 28-minute flight wasn’t cheap but was more than worth the expense as far as Jordan was concerned.
“It was definitely worth the money,” he said.
“It was a great flight. We got on at Albion Park [Illawarra Regional Airport] airport and flew over Wollongong harbour before landing at Port Kembla Golf Club.
“The best part was definitely the landing. Seeing everyone’s faces was priceless.
“No one believed us at first. They didn’t think it was going to happen but we proved them wrong.”
Jordan said while the chopper ride was his idea, his mates were quick to jump on board.
“The pilot told us he hadn’t flown that many people to their formals. That was good to hear,” he said.
“We wanted to do something different and fun. I think we achieved that on both counts.”
The 18-year-old said the experience was one of the best in his life.
“It’s definitely something I’ll never forget. I think we all felt pretty special on the night,” Jordan said.
“We will be able to look back on this night down the track and remember what a great night we had.
“I’m definitely glad we decided to do this. I know the boys are too.”
Their fellow Kanahooka HS year 12 students were also impressed, as were the teachers at the formal.
“The teachers were just happy we came down in one piece and didn’t crash or anything like that,” Jordan said.
