Zunic, who won the Queensland Open two weeks ago, had stepped off the plane at 7am before teeing off in the first round, after missing the cut the final round of the European Tour qualifying in Spain.
But on Friday he produced the hottest round of the tournament, rattling off eight birdies, as well as one bogey, to finish at six-under and tied for sixth, two shots behind Korean Byeong-Hun An, who fired a hole-in-one at the 15th, and Australian Max McCardle.
“I actually didn’t realise how well I was going until I added it up at the end there,” Zunic told Channel Seven.
“So that’s usually a good sign that you’re staying in the moment. I’ve been playing quite well lately and managing to hole a few putts, so it was cool. I’m a bit tired now, but I’m glad I can have the afternoon off and have a rest.”
