But Keira MP Ryan Park delivered some good news on Friday, announcing the school was one of 19 not-for-profit organisations in his electorate to share in $330,000.
The school’s P&C will receive $18,495 in funding for work to upgrade an outdoor classroom.
Mr Park said these funds will be put to good use after the school suffered an extensive fire which destroyed an entire classroom block and faculty.
“Corrimal High School we all know has had a difficult month and this money will help to re-build this school so the students can return as quickly as possible,” he said.
“I congratulate the P&C on their efforts and I am pleased to have been able to help them with this funding. I am pleased to have been able to assist 19 community groups.”
Bellambi Football Club Inc received the most funding this round, awarded $65,000 to construct new lighting at Elizabeth Park, Bellambi.
Mr Park added the important funding was for projects such as playground upgrades, community gardens, sporting facility improvements and facility refurbishments.
“This support enables these groups to continue to improve the level of services they provide to the people of the Illawarra, in which many local families rely on for day to day support,” he said.
“Community organisations are a lifeline for many local residents and I am very happy to have been able to provide them with a little extra help in time for Christmas.”
