Theresa Bateup didn’t plan on heading to the races with Freaky Freckles this soon, but the opportunity to debut in a small field at her home track proved too good to pass up.

The two-year-old daughter of Al Maher will take on just four rivals in the Rotary Phillipines Project 2YO Maiden Plate (900m) at Kembla Grange on Saturday.
“She is one of those fillies that just keeps stepping up,” Bateup said.
“I never planned to run her in this race because she only trialled on Wednesday but I saw it and thought why not.
“If the race was a week later, it would have been ideal but she trialled well and I didn’t think we would get a big field.
“It should be a good experience for her on her home track and a nice bit of education.”
Freaky Freckles finished second in a trial behind The Lifeline on Wednesday.
The filly will be the first of Bateup’s new crop of two-year-olds to visit the races.
“She was probably one of my smaller two-year-olds but she has got some nice size now,” Bateup said.
“She is a really progressive filly that’s quite intelligent.”
Jess Taylor will pilot Freaky Freckles on the weekend where she will tackle a small but competitive field of juveniles.
Peter and Paul Snowden will give $815,000 yearling Stronger his first start alongside stablemate Brazenpine.
Kurt Goldman will bring his Your Song filly Outta Reach, which won a trial at Goulburn earlier this month.
Gary Nickson’s Judge’s Daughter completes the field.
