Illawarra batsman Wyatt Toland showed his potential in the representative ranks with a stunning century in Sunday’s under 12 inter-association match against Southern Highlands.

Toland was greeted with cheers and a guard of honour from his teammates as he walked off on 100 not out from 113 balls, including 11 fours. Coming in at No.3 with the score on 1-41, Toland led Illawarra to 5-255 from their 40 overs. Captain Thomas King also produced his best knock of the inter-association series, scoring 56 off 49 balls.
Toland also took a wicket, while Lachlan Neal and Harrison Macdonald took two each and Harrison Deck had a tidy return of 0-4 from four overs, including three maidens.
The Highlands were bowled out for 163.
Meanwhile, Greater Illawarra played out an extraordinary tie in the under 13 Gee Shield match against Sutherland on Saturday.
Chasing 173 for victory, Sutherland needed six off the final over and picked up five singles. But all-rounder Angus Campbell held his nerve, bowling a dot ball on the final delivery to leave the match tied.
Campbell had played the leading role with the bat, scoring 76 off 94 balls, before being run out chasing quick runs in the final overs.
Illawarra were 5-172, Luke Bramble not out on 30 and Nicolas Nicastri making 26 at the top of the order.
Greater Illawarra now face South-Eastern in the final round on Sunday at Dalton Park, needing to win to qualify for the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, the under 14 Greater Illawarra representative team head into the final round full of confidence after a 67-run victory over Sutherland. Thomas Giustiniani took 3-17, while Alec Dobson claimed 2-8 off five overs.
In the under 15 Weblin Shield, Greater Illawarra fell eight runs short of Sutherland’s total of 150 on the Figtree Oval turf pitch.
Captain Liam Mackrell worked hard to setup the Illawarra innings, with 26 off 80 balls, while his opening partner Lachlan Mark made 22.
Illawarra play Camden in a qualifying final on Sunday, while the under 16s meet North Shore.
