Police stopped Shane Markham’s blue Kenworth K200 on Lake Entrance Road at Warilla just before 11am after receiving information Markham was wanted on outstanding warrants after failing to turn up to Campbelltown Court in July.
Markham, who was participating in the Illawarra Convoy as part of his employment with TJS Transport Logisitcs at the time of his arrest, was ordered to lock up his vehicle and leave it by the side of the road before being taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station for processing.
The 29-year-old told arresting officers he had been on an interstate trip in Melbourne at the time he should have been in court.
He blamed his apprehension on his ex-partner, who he said he’d spotted in the crowd during the Convoy.
He told officers the woman began filming him before sticking her middle finger up at him. Markham claims he did not return the gesture.
He was refused bail overnight and fronted Wollongong Court on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to the outstanding offences – three charges of using a carriage service to menace and harass.
Court documents said Markham had bombarded the woman with unwanted phone calls and text messages since she ended their “volatile” four-month relationship in February.
He also sent her multiple images of himself with naked women in an apparently unsuccessful bid to make her jealous.
Markham was fined $1,000 and placed on a 12-month Commonwealth bond.
