TAFE Illawarra students will be showcasing their unique perspective at a photography exhibition this week.
Featuring work from Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging students, Every Photo A Memory runs from Wednesday to Friday at the Karoona Art Gallery at TAFE NSW Wollongong West.
Opening night is Wednesday (November 21) from 5pm to 7pm.
THURSDAY, November 22
Film festival
The Radical Reels film festival tour will visit Anita's Theatre, Thirroul on Thursday, November 22.
This prestigious mountain film festival will showcase almost three hours of adrenaline-pumping, action-packed films.
Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm. All ages event, tickets $33.09. See venue website for more details.
FRIDAY, November 23
Wollongong Writers Festival
A world of ideas, art and literature will be unleashed on the Illawarra.
The Wollongong Writers Festival will take place from November 23-25.
Venues such as Wollongong Art Gallery, Town Hall and Library will host workshops, panels, spoken word, jazz music and open-mic events.
Participants include Catherine McKinnon, Greenpeace CEO David Ritter, Kirli Saunders, Roanna Gonsalves, Dr Michael Mohammed Ahmad, Evelyn Araluen, Michelle Cahill, Kate Cole-Adams and more.
“The fun begins on Friday night with our free launch,” festival director Hayley Scrivenor said.
“There will be lots of laughs courtesy of our host Madeleine Stewart, and an incredible drag act with a difference from Tall Jan.”
Most events are $15 admission, although some are free. Weekend passes are also available.

UOW student exhibition
The University of Wollongong’s School of the Arts, English and Media will be hosting a graduate exhibition.
It will take place in Building 25 at UOW.
The exhibition will be opening on November 23 from 6pm-9pm, then during the week it will be open from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, then on Saturdays it will be open from 12pm-5pm.
It closes on December 8.
‘Chopper’ set to return
Australia’s “most wanted” comedian, Heath Franklin’s ‘Chopper’ will undertake another tour this October and November.
Franklin started doing impersonations of the late notorious criminal Mark ‘Chopper’ Read for mates during his university days.
After selling 25,000 tickets throughout Australia and New Zealand, ‘Chopper’ aka Franklin, is heading out on the road to spread the ‘hard’ word.
He will perform on Friday, November 23 at the IPAC.
Fundraising concert
ARIA Award nominated artist, Fanny Lumsden has just released her new single Real Men Don’t Cry (War On Pride).
It’s the third single lifted from her No.1 ARIA Country Album Real Class Act.
This album is a finalist for ‘Best Country Album’ at the 2018 ARIA awards and Lumsden is currently traversing the country as part of her ‘Under Our Hills Hoist’ tour.
As part of this tour, Lumsden will be performing in Thirroul at Frank’s Wild Years - On the Beach Sessions on Friday, November 23.
The show runs from 6pm to 7pm. There will be limited tickets available at the door.
Proceeds will go to the Black Dog Institute.
The venue is located at 3/2A Raymond Road, Thirroul.
SATURDAY, November 24
Comedy
Australia's adopted son of comedy, Arj Barker is bringing his We Need To Talk show to Anita's Theatre, Thirroul.
Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.
To market, to market
The Kiama Makers & Growers Market will take place at Black Beach, Kiama from 9am to 2pm.
There will be more than 60 stalls. This is a make it, bake it, grow it, sew it market.
Also includes Matilda’s Farmyard Nursery, jumping castle, face-painting and more.
Park run
A free community run takes place every Saturday at 8am – Killalea in Shell Cove, Sandon Point in Bulli or from Elliots Road in Fairy Meadow.
This is a weekly 5km timed run/walk event for everyone, irrespective of ability.

SUNDAY, November 25
Christmas market
The Illawarra Lapidary Club will host an ‘Open Day’ Christmas Market at 51 Meadow Street, Tarrawanna on Sunday, November 25.
It runs from 9am to 2pm, with free entry.
You can view the club rooms, and purchase mineral specimens, fossils, lapidary materials and jewellery.
Morning tea and sausage sizzle lunch available.
Shellharbour Central Market
A series of four Christmas markets will be taking place.
You can buy a unique Christmas gift and meet Santa.
On the opening day on November 25, photographer Ann Young will be operating inside the venue with a summer surf backdrop for families to have their photo taken with Santa.
Matilda’s Nursery Petting Zoo will set up and there will be a jumping castle, airbrush tattooist, live music and stallholders.
The next market will take place on Sunday, November 25 at 3 Memorial Drive, Shellharbour Central, next door to the Shellharbour Central Hotel from 11am to 4pm.
‘Here + Now’ wrap party
The Here+Now exhibition “celebrates the diverse and unique creative energy of this region”.
There will be a ‘wrap party’ on Sunday, November 25 from 7pm to 10pm at the Wollongong Art Gallery.
It will include live music from The Pinheads, food, refreshments and a last chance to see the work of some of the Illawarra’s most promising young artists.
Free, all welcome. Works by Jessica Cochrane, Tex Crick, Ebony Eden, Misha Harrison, India Mark, Paige Northwood, Nick Santoro and Chris Zanko.
