The family run Helensburgh zoo has spent the last seven months completing the splash park as well as a new playground.
The biggest capital investment ever at Symbio comprises of 1.2 kms of water pipe, 600 tonnes of concrete, and six kilometres of reinforcing steel.
The Radnidge family injected $750,000 into developing the facility to give visitors a chance to cool off on a day out getting up close and personal to Australian native and exotic animals.
The new splash park comes complete with a large dump bucket, water fountains, water squirters and snake tunnel.
Marketing manager Kevin Fallon said there is so much interest in the new water attraction that a competition Symbio ran on its Facebook page to win a family pass generated over 26,000 likes, comments and shares.
Mr Fallon said the splash park was designed to help create the ultimate family fun day out.
Use of the splash park is included in the zoo’s standard entry price.
“With the State government's generous commitment to support the regional tourism industry in NSW and enhance the experiences on offer to drive overnight visitation, this project was awarded $150,000 funding through the Destination NSW Regional Tourism Product Development Fund,” he said.
“That was a significant factor in ensuring the family owned and operated zoo could undertake this project which was the largest in the zoo's 45 years history”.
“Outside of the gorgeous beaches within minutes of Symbio, up until now there have been very little options for those living in the South of Sydney and surrounds to truly have an amazing water based experience.
“This Splash Park gives people of all ages and mobility just that, but unlike beaches this is in a completely safe and controlled environment where they can splash about all year around whilst also getting the chance to get up close and personal to some of the world’s coolest animals.
“I for one know where my two boys and myself will spending our weekends as the mercury rises”.
