The Property Council Illawarra recently hosted an industry event in Wollongong.
It featured a briefing from Peter Anderson, executive director of the Land and Housing Corporation.
He discussed the NSW government’s Communities Plus program, which utilises social housing sites for redevelopment to provide more social housing mixed with private and affordable housing.
The government believes the 70 per cent private to 30 per cent public and affordable housing ratio is an appropriate mix for the program.
“This is a great step towards integrating more diverse housing types in our communities across NSW,” Property Council Illawarra regional director Michelle Guido told the Mercury.
Ms Guido said attendees learnt about a range of such projects across Greater Sydney, as well as the Australian first ‘build-to-rent’ development at Redfern.
“On a regional level, Peter spoke about the upcoming (Communities Plus) developments at Robert Street, Corrimal and also 15-19 Crown Street, Wollongong which has recently gone through an EOI process,” she said.
“It was a really informative and insightful briefing, with some great discussion with local stakeholders around the benefits of this program and what it means for housing supply in our region.”
