That’s the deal that Coledale Surf Life Saving Club struck with Dulux after realising the club needed some sprucing up.
“A few of the club members here started to paint one of the walls,” said club president Anthony O’Donoghue.
“We did that and the when we looked at the whole club it started looking a little scrubby.
“When you’re there all the time it looks okay but once we painted this wall we walked around the rest of the club and saw it looked really old and sad.”
So Mr O’Donoghue sent an email to Dulux – who is known to help out surf clubs – to see if they’d supply some paint so the members could finish the job..
“They came back along with Surf Life Saving Australia and said ‘listen, we want to shoot a commercial, how about we come and paint your club and put it in an ad?’, he said.
The result is a nicely-painted clubhouse, and an ad that features some of the surf club members in small roles.
“They took about a week to paint it with four painters,” Mr O’Donoghue said.
“Then they came on a Friday and a Monday in September to shoot the commercial
“They employed about 13 of the surf club members to appear in the ad.”
