There was only one prerequisite needed to enter into the third annual Wollongong Film Festival, meaning the final collection of films were quite diverse and crossed cultures.
“I’m a big believer in inclusion and diversity, and promoting what society really looks like,” festival organiser Gia Frino said.
“What you see on screen really needs to mirror our everyday lives.”
Each submission required at least two women to hold key positions in the production – such as director, producer, lead role, writer, cinematographer, editor and composer.
“They’re quite diverse between genres – there’s animation, there’s documentations to narrative films,” Ms Frino said.
“The main theme is there is a strong female team behind making the film.”
Proceeds from tickets will also assist the One Girl charity, helping educate women in developing countries.
Among the shortlist is Rubber Gloves – a coming of age short film that will challenge the perception of youth, rebellion and privacy; a film shot by two people on their honeymoon, The Road To Vagator; the story of a a classical Indian dancer in Mastering The Rhythm; and a police chase in the outback in Round Trip.
