Of particular note is the service’s accessibility, with Mr Johnston and his software coder from Canberra building functions into the platform, called DME3, that allow it to be accessed and read by reading programs used by people with disability.
“The DME3 team is excited to launch our artist services,” Mr Johnston said this week.
“We have been working on making DME3 music services accessible for everyone including those with disabilities and we have achieved that goal! That means our platform can be read by reading programs such as Read and Write Gold, ClaroRead software and other reading software.
“This will allow any artist or user who can’t read to use our platform and fully navigate our services with their reading software.
“That’s one big difference between our music platform and other music services. Some other music platforms are not readable with reading programs,” Mr Johnston, who himself has cerebral palsy and uses reading software, said.
Before the service opens to users, DME3 is urging all musicians both local and across the world to submit their work to the catalogue.
From today, Friday, November 30, artists can go to the DME3 website – https://dme3.com.au/submit/ – and submit their music along with a blurb about themselves, and create a profile.
“It is free for musicians to submit music to the platform and they will get exposure not only locally but worldwide,” Mr Johnston said.
“The music streaming service for members is unavailable for now but will be launched once the platform has established music playlists.
“We want to launch the music streaming service with a big catalogue of music for listeners!”
Mr Johnston wished to acknowledge support received from the community, including from Clubs NSW, Uniting, My Choice Matters and generous members of the local community who contributed to the DME3 crowdfunding campaign.
