WAITING AND WATCHING
Let us hope that the establishment of a new Age Care Quality and Safety Commission to regulate residential age care, home care services, flexible care services and publicly funded aged care services really will lead to a significant "crack down on shocking cases of neglect and abuse in the sector" (Illawarra Mercury, November 27 2018) in this country.

What will help to determine the commission's success will be how sharp are its teeth, and how prepared the commission is in using them.
All to often policing authorities are formed to quell the public outcry only to have one hand tiered behind its back so that it appears a government is doing something, but in reality politicians have ensured nothing much will change so their job prospects after politics are not threatened.
The Seniors United Party will be watching this development before making a final judgement.

HITTING ROCK BOTTOM
You know politics in this country has hit rock bottom when politicians demonstrate they have had their heads in the sand.
Julia Banks claims she is quitting the Coalition Government to sit on the crossbench because of the leadership coup against former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
Among other things she added her colleagues were driven by their individual self-promotion rather than the Australian public.
Was she out of the country or off the planet when Turnbull actually started the ongoing rumble inside the Liberal Party by doing a hatchet job on Brendan Nelson and then an elected Prime Minister?
And why? Simply because he was driven by his own self-promotion rather than what was best for the Australian public.
Turnbull’s demise simply came about because he injected a destructive disease into the Liberals and as it spread it eventually caught up with him.

THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
Good on the kids taking their own future in their own hands. I was politically naive until 1967 when I started university in Ohio.
At that time, there were two very important issues, the war in Vietnam and civil rights, both of which I became involved with.
Those years formed the political and moral views which I continue to hold today. This caused some issues with my conservative Republican parents.
My mother once asked me if I was a communist. Our children are the future, and it would be immoral to let a small number of right wing politicians put that future in jeopardy.

DOING THE MATH
Dave Cox is correct in his statement concerning adding your birth year to your age and arriving at 2018. However he is incorrect in stating this will not happen again for another thousand years.
In fact it happens every year.I was born in 1949 and am 69 years of age. Added together you get 2018. Next year I will be 70. Add my birth year of 1949 and you get 2019, which is next year.
