The 15-year-old boy was walking along the footpath at the corner of Cawley and Rothery streets – near Holy Spirit College – when a vehicle stopped nearby about 4.50pm on Sunday.
“Two men got out, running and yelling at the victim,” Acting Inspector Lisa Westwood, from Wollongong police, said.
“One of them has punched him in the head.”
It is understood the second man also punched the teen.
The boy’s phone was stolen and the pair fled the scene.
No detailed description of the two men was provided; only that they were both shirtless. No details of the vehicle were available.
Investigations are continuing.
