Adam Scari, A 30-year-old mechanic from Corrimal, went to reverse into a parking spot outside the Austi Beach Cafe on Lawrence Hargrave Drive about 1.10pm on November 3, Wollongong Local Court heard on Monday.
Police say a 53-year-old man who was driving behind him inadvertently positioned his car so it prevented Scari from reaching the spot.
The older man feared a collision and beeped his car horn as Scari went to reverse.
Scari then got out of his car, yelling and screaming at the man through his open window.
The man told him, “you need to give me more indication what you’re doing”, before Scari landed two right-fisted punches to the man’s nose and mouth.
The man was left dazed and watery-eyed.
Moments later, spitting out something hard, he realised his bottom front teeth had been shattered by the blows.
NSW Ambulance paramedics came to his aid. At Wollongong Hospital he was later diagnosed with a fractured nose and told he would need dental treatment to fix his damaged teeth.
Scari declined to be interviewed by police when he was arrested a week later, but when asked about the assault said he’d “had a brainfart” and had been having a bad day as he’d just lost his job.
He pleaded guilty on Monday to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
His lawyer told the court he had since voluntarily enrolled in an anger management course operated by the Salvation Army.
Magistrate Cate Follent adjourned the matter to February 22 to allow for a sentencing assessment report to be prepared.
