The blue Ford Focus was dumped at Buckleys Road, Dunmore and set alight on Tuesday night.
The fire was extinguished by NSW Fire and Rescue crews soon after.
Police believe the Ford Focus was used to flee the scene of a crash at Albion Park early Tuesday morning which left a woman in a critical condition.
The driver had stolen another car, a Volkswagen Golf station wagon, before crashing it into a parked truck on Daintree Drive about 4.50am.
The force of the crash pushed the truck into two parked cars.
Lake Illawarra police are continuing their search for a man who is described as being Caucasian, 183cm tall with a slim build. He has short hair and was wearing a faded yellow high visibility shirt.
The 20-year-old woman, who was pulled from the Albion Park crash wreckage before the driver fled, is now in a stable condition at St George Hospital.
She suffered abdominal and leg injuries in the crash.
Anyone with information about the crash, the driver or the stolen vehicles should contact police.
