Wollongong Central’s new centre manager has hit the ground running by getting out into the community and meeting people.
Michelle Palmer most recently worked in GPT’s national marketing and digital team where she specifically looked after the business development function across the company’s portfolio. Prior to that she has a recruitment background.
“I have been with GPT for five years. We have also employed an assistant centre manager”.
Mrs Palmer said a new team was an opportunity to do a refresh and re-establish the centre after it was put on the market early in the year and then taken off in June when a buyer wasn’t found. She said it is time to move forward and positively talk about the future. “It is positive for everyone to have that stability there,” she said.
Mrs Palmer said Wollongong Central was still looking at options for who should go into the former Max Brenner site. “It is something we are actively working on.”
She is not afraid to try new things to give people new experiences. And thinks it’s important to listen to what shoppers and businesses are saying and evolve. “I certainly get a sense there is a vibrancy around this city and it is a great place to be. We want to look forward and see how we can contribute.”
This Christmas Santa’s Grotto is returning to the Gateway Centre but the set has evolved and been extended to enhance the experience in partnership with not-for-profit Wild Rumpus and its focus on creative learning.
Wollongong Central is staying open until midnight on Thursday December 20.
“We have recognised that is a very peak retail period and one of the busiest days across the centre so we have actually extended our trading hours until midnight that day with the addition of a DJ and a dance floor and live music throughout the centre.
“Post Christmas we are also open Boxing Day from 9am to 6pm and expect customers will come out to grab that bargain. Most retailers participate in that,” she said.
For the school holidays Questacon is back by popular demand from January 11 to 25, bringing a new exhibition called Bytewise.
