Only her eldest child, Max, now nine, has firm memories of her.
On Sunday, after running 10km non-stop at Bulli, it was Max who crossed the finish line first at a fundraiser walk in his mother’s honour.
The Walk for Sheree drew about 550 people – and emotional but fulfilling result for Mrs McPherson’s Wollongong-based parents, Margo and David Naylor.
“It was a little bit emotional when we saw the numbers turn up – Sheree would have been really happy with that," Mr Naylor said.
“But this wasn’t just a walk for Sheree. This is about all people who have been touched by cancer in some shape or form.
“We were walking together, as a team.
“I think the word’s out there that we need to do more to end this disease.”
Mrs McPherson died in May 2017, 18 months after she was diagnosed with a melanoma in her tongue.
Early indications are that the event raised about $7500 for the Cancer Council.
