Mr Hendy, a Culburra Beach local, had been missing since November 21.
Police, family and the local community had undertaken a number of searches in the area since the 57-year-old went missing.
A family of bushwalkers found the body, believed to be Mr Hendy, at Longbow Point, on the northern side of Lake Wollumboola.
Police are waiting for formal identification.
Police said inquiries into the incident are continuing, but they were not conducting any further searches for the missing man.
Mr Hendy’s family has been informed and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
