Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area, as they hunt the attacker two days later.
A 21-year-old man was parking his grey Volkswagen Golf on Robsons Road about 9.40am Tuesday when he was approached by another man.
Police have been told the unknown man demanded the driver hand over his car keys and wallet, before stunning him three times with the electronic device.
Wollongong Police District Inspector Don Faulds said the student was not physically injured.
“[The attacker] was quite aggressive, from the information we’ve received. He has just walked straight up to the victim and made some demands in relation to the vehicle, then he’s used some sort of electronic stun device to somehow incapacitate or slow down the victim,” he said. “There’s always people coming and going in that area, so it’s a fairly brazen attack.”
The man drove off in the Volkswagen, which bears the NSW registration DJS 296. The car was last seen heading south on Robsons Road.
A blue Toyota Aurion with NSW registration YGQ 79J was also seen leaving the area, with a woman believed to be behind the wheel.
Officers from Wollongong Police District would like to speak with a man and a woman who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
The man has been described as being of Indian Subcontinental appearance, approximately 185cms tall, with a solid build, and dark facial stubble.
He was wearing a black, shiny, long-sleeve sports jacket.
The woman was not further described.
UOW alerted students to the incident via its SafeZone app.
The victim was a UOW student, and he was not injured in the attack, according to the alert.
The carjacking came a day before a car was stolen from the carpark of UOW’s building 25 complex, about 6.15pm. Several numberplates were also reported stolen from Graduate House about 6.30pm Wednesday.
As inquiries continue, anyone with information, dashcam footage, or who sights either of the two described cars is urged to contact police.
