It follows a night of spectacular thunder and lightning – leaving around 10,000 homes in the Shellharbour area without power.
Power has been restored to all homes across the region.
State Emergency Service media officer Phil Schafer said Wollongong and Shellharbour residents went relatively “unscathed” considering crews responded to 673 jobs statewide.
“We are expecting moderate to heavy rainfall [on Friday] for the South Coast,” he said.
“Our concern is heavy rainfall leads to flash flooding.
“If you don’t see the road, don’t drive through it – you don’t know what the flood waters overnight have done to the infrastructure of the road.”
Between 9am Thursday and 7.20am Friday, Bellambi weather station recorded 23.2mm of rain while Moss Vale recorded 62.8mm.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a high chance of showers on Friday during the morning and afternoon.
They have also issued a marine wind warning for the Illawarra coast for Saturday.
The rain should start to clear on Sunday.
