The Mayor’s annual St Vincent de Paul Society Christmas Appeal donates thousands of dollars’ worth of gifts and vouchers to the charity each year.
This year the appeal received $1950 in cash, $2000 worth of gift vouchers from The Shellharbour Club, and dozens of toys and gifts.
Additionally, more than $4000 was raised by the Mayor’s Fashion Parade, which kicked off this year’s appeal.
Cr Saliba thanked the community for its kindness in providing some Christmas joy to those less fortunate.
“Once again our community proved their generosity in looking after those who will be doing it tough this Christmas,” Cr Saliba said.
Meanwhile, Wollongong City Council is continuing its appeal to help kids in need this Christmas.
They are seeking donations of Christmas presents for children up to 16 years of age who otherwise might go without.
“I’d like to encourage everyone who can to donate an unwrapped gift or gift card to council’s Giving Tree Appeal to help make sure that every child can experience the magic of Christmas,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said.
“It’s easy to forget with all the holiday joy that there are some people in our community who are doing it tough.
“The City of Wollongong’s Giving Tree Appeal will work with three Wollongong agencies – St Vincent de Paul Society, Anglicare, and SCARF (Strategic Community Assistance to Refugee Families) – to help distribute these gifts.”
Unwrapped gifts and gift cards can be left at the following locations until Tuesday, December 18:
*Council’s customer service area, Burelli Street administration building.
*Warrawong Library.
*Dapto Library.
*Unanderra Library.
*Corrimal Library.
