The Kookaburras recovered from 2-nil down to level the game with just 27 seconds on the clock when Eddie Ockenden scored to send the showdown to extra-time. 

However, the Netherlands ended Australia’s hopes of winning a third straight World Cup with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory after six attempts. 

Australia’s top scorer Blake Govers forced Blaak into an 18th minute save from a second attempt at a short corner and again just before half-time.

Govers almost made it 2-all from another short corner with three minutes left. 

Ogilvie also had his chance in the second half, but the Illawarra duo watched on as their teammates missed three in the penalty shoot-out.

They now play England for bronze.
