Artist and teacher Patricia Bohackyj has spent the last two years working towards starting a walking photography group in the region, and now has done so with the help of the Wollongong Art Gallery.
The Walking Photography of NSW group will run on the first Sunday of each month, beginning January 6, and depart from the gallery on the corner of Burelli and Kembla Streets.
At the end of 2019, Ms Bohackyj will curate an exhibition titled Places and Spaces from the images taken throughout the year which will be shown at the major gallery.
“The first one we’ll do a workshop [as well] – cover composition, basic techniques of taking photos, and things to guide people,” she said.
The fitness/art group will be open to anyone from the age of 16 and up, though participants will be required to bring a digital SLR with no smartphones allowed.
“We’re going to stick to a more authentic camera with lenses,” Ms Bohackyj said.
“This is a little passion [of mine]. I’m very much into [analogue] photography but digital is new age and I think it makes it accessible to everybody.”
The cost of the initial walk plus two-hour workshop is $50. Membership to the group for 12 months will be $25. For more details search for the group on Facebook.
