Mary Mouawad has been doing the Bellambi route on her bicycle for only six months but is already on a first name basis with the neighbourhood that takes in Pioneer Road.
Many people on her daily run know her routine and love to stop and chat to the smiling friendly postie during her deliveries for Australia Post.
But Gladstone Street resident Peree Eager said Mary was now making Christmas extra special for everyone with Elf outfits she has made especially for the festive season.
Mrs Eager said she has really made a big impact on children, the elderly and those who are not be in a position to enjoy this festive season as much as most.
The word quickly spread among children in Bellambi that Christmas Mary has been handing out lollies this year. And many have been waiting with their friends for her to pass by their house.
“I love what she is doing. I love Christmas and this is so good,” Mrs Eager said.
“She even drops Candy Cane into our mailbox. I have six children and they think it is fantastic. This is the best time of the year. But it is not the best for everyone.
‘’Mary has a big smile on her face and chats to everyone she sees. She is just so friendly and quickly got to know everyone. That’s just Mary.
“She has this wonderful personality that makes everyone feel special.
“It is very good for the elderly. And people doing it tough at this time of year. A lot of us think this is the best time of the year. But it is not the best time for everyone”.
Christmas Mary has made two different coloured outfits for her daily delivery run.
It includes recycling old joggers and converting them into Elf shoes with leg covering from a table sewn on by hand.
“I like to be in the Chrismas spirit,” Mary said.
“And seeing the kids’ faces look so happy. Some of the children have been running out their houses and chasing me this week asking if I have any lollies”.
Christmas Mary has personally written cards and dropped them into the mailboxes of people she has come to know well.
She is also aware that for some people it may not be the best time of the year.
This week one lady cried when she deliver a parcel because it had not been a good time and Christmas Mary helped change that.
“I like to lighten things up dressing up,” Mary said.
“I like getting to know people and they look forward to me delivering their mail with a smile and friendly word. I like to see the smiles on peoples’ faces”.
Christmas Mary handed out 200 Candy Canes in two days.
Then on Christmas Eve one lady handed her some cherries as a thank you because she had been handing out Christmas treats for dogs in the neighbourhood and her Kelpie loved the doggy biscuits.
Some of the businesses on Christmas Elf Mary’s route like what she is doing so much they have taken her photo and posted it on their social media pages.
“People are excited that I am getting into the spirit of the season,” she said.
