It’s part of a national program to inspire imaginations and instill a reading where club members can meet 21 new Australian authors and illustrators online, read their helpful creative hints and tips and get exclusive previews of their up and coming work.
More than 43,000 children registered with the Summer Reading Club in 2017, reading over 360,000 books between them.
Organisers are hoping participants will crack half a million books this time round.
This summer’s theme is “curious creatures”, with young readers able to discover new worlds and meet a curiosity of creatures through interactive activities in the Library and online.
This includes blogging with children’s authors, Dr. Cameron Stelzer and Emma Middleton, searching for answers to Encyclopaedia Britannica’s sponsored quiz, crafting a What Happens Next story ending to Dave Lowe’s story starter, as well as sharing their book raves and artwork.
Register at Kiama Library, or online at: www.summerreadingclub.org.au
Children registering and returning their reading records to Kiama Library will receive a Summer Reading Club pack and lucky dip prizes.
The Summer Reading Club culminates with a visit to Kiama Library by the Taronga Zoomobile on January 25.
