A Commonwealth Games silver medallist will headline the Illawarra Track Classic on Saturday, which also features the NSW 60m sprint and mile race titles.
Australian hammer throw talent Alexandra Hulley, 21, will compete at Kerryn McCann Athletics Centre, nine months after finishing second at the Commonwealth Games behind New Zealander Julia Ratcliffe.
Hulley threw 68.20 to secure silver on the Gold Coast.
Illawong’s Abbie Taddeo will be chasing a remarkable seventh state title over the 60m sprint distance, but will face some of Australia’s top short-course runners.
Defending champion, Campbelltown’s Anas Abu-Ganaba, will be the one to beat in the men’s 60m final.
Abu-Ganaba is known for his brilliant starts and will take some catching.
Among the other major events include the mile race for the NSW title.
The mile has been the centre of a resurgence in popularity in recent times, including an Australian title held recently.
Supporting events for the program include the Masters 60 metres which has always provided top line competition.
The Illawarra Blue Stars masters events will be held in 10-year age categories.
Other events will be the added event for pole-vaulters, long jump,100 metres and three-kilometre events.
Completing a remarkable schedule of events, Athletics NSW has this year included a junior athletes program, with state titles for also compete for a state title.
Athletics NSW has under 14, under 16, under 18 and under 20 athletes.
