Show season rolls into the Illawarra this month, with both Albion Park and Kiama boasting packed schedules.

The 2019 Albion Park Show will take place on Saturday, January 19 and Sunday, January 20 at Albion Park Showground.
Events will include the Demolition Derby, fireworks, camel races, the Showgirl presentation and Tiny Tot/Junior Princess presentation.
Albion Park Show Society secretary Marilyn Connelly said their event remained “the biggest little show on the coast”.
Mrs Connelly said the Demolition Derby continued to be one of their biggest drawcards.
However, she said there had been significant interest in the camel races, returning after a couple of years’ absence.
“Everyone wants to ride a camel,” she laughed.
Attractions include market stalls, reptile display, sideshows, rides, animal nursery, arts, crafts and horticultural displays, cow milking and chook washing demonstrations, show-jumping and wood-chopping.
The show runs from approximately 8.30am to 11pm on Saturday, and 8.30am to 3pm on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the 171st Kiama Show takes place on Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26 at Kiama Showground.
The show will feature plenty of the attractions punters have been enjoying for decades, including thousands of pavilion exhibits, cattle judging, horse-jumping and the wood-chop.
There will also be many popular, more recent show attractions such as the FMX stunt motorbikes, live reptile show and Matilda’s Farmyard.
In addition, the 2019 show also features the return of the rodeo and camel races.
Kiama Show president David Barnes said the Show Society had worked hard to ensure the event maintained links to its agricultural past, while also attracting a new audience.
“From its very beginnings the Kiama Show has been a community event,’’ Mr Barnes said. “And while we aim to attract people from far and wide, at its heart, the show is still very much a community event.
“In keeping with that community feel, we have included a host of old-fashioned, family-friendly attractions such as gumboot throwing, billycart races and a dunking machine.’’
Other highlights include the Friday Pet Show, sashing of the Kiama Showgirl, rides, sideshow alley and the fireworks finale.
Kiama’s own Kiki (Tamara Campbell) and Pascale (Dave Evans) will also return with La Petite Grande Circus, Café De Rude pop-up watering hole and Aerial Show in the Circus Drop zone.
Gates open 9am daily.
