Lake Illawarra Acting Inspector Peter Northey said the 48-year-old answered a knock at his door around 5:30pm, where he was assaulted by an unknown man.
“He then forced his way in made a number of demands before he left,” Acting Inspector Northey said.
He said the alleged offender may have targeted the wrong house because he wanted cash and drugs but left with neither.
The victim phoned emergency services and was taken to Wollongong Hospital with multiple fractures to his jaw.
The offender is said to be six foot tall, aged in his 30’s, of Indigenous appearance with dark skin and black hair that was greying, thin build with “well built upper body”.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lake Illawarra Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
