Showing no signs of rust as they played their first match of the new year, the Lakers bowling attacked cleaned through their opponents. Blake Roach and Tode Biracoski each took three wickets as Shellharbour were bowled out for 78.
Kerrod White then made light work of the run chase, scoring 56* as Lake Illawarra reached their target in 12 overs.
“It was a great result,” Lakers captain Mark Ulcigrai said. “It was good to come back from the break with a win. The wicket was perfect, we bowled in the right areas and we got our just rewards.”
Saturday’s other matches saw Oak Flats secure an important victory over Kiama/Gerringong. After reaching 8-138, the Rats bowlers restricted their opponents to 9-130.
Kookas’ clash with The Rail was abandoned.
