Theatre company, Rising Arts Productions, will stage the darkly humorous yet honest musical about teenage relationships, depression and suicide.
Co-directors Bradley Ward and Jarrod Riesinger were blown away with the response to the auditions.
“We were surprised by the 130 people who auditioned,” he said.
“We feel blessed to have some of the best performers from Illawarra theatres as part of the show.
“We thought it would be a popular musical. We are honoured to be able to give performers the opportunity to bring this musical to life.”
Mr Ward said the musical’s appeal came from its classical rock soundtrack that captured the audience and the sensitive issues it explored.
“As artists, it is important for us to address the issues of depression and suicide,” he said.
“We hope people have a great time and that the songs get stuck in their heads.
“We hope people are touched and that they think about the issues raised.”
Mr Ward and Mr Riesinger, who are creative directors, started the company in the Macarthur region in 2017 and staged their first play last year. They have also taken improvisation comedy performances to the Sydney Fringe Festival.
The creative directors want to provide an opportunity for young performers and crew from the Illawarra and Sydney to hone their craft after high school.
The musical will be on February 1, 2, 8 and 9 at 8pm and 2pm on February 3 at The Phoenix Theatre.
