The strike bowler took five wickets in a brutal spell that knocked Helensburgh out of the competition in last week’s semi-final, but he is unavailable for both two-day and Twenty20 action this weekend.

Uni captain Mitchell Hearn acknowledges Voysey’s absence leaves a major void in his side’s lineup, however he’s confident he has the cattle on hand to fill that void in Sunday’s final against Wollongong.

“Rhys will be out for us for both games this weekend, which in my eyes makes Wollongong the favourites,” Hearn said. “But we have a lot of depth in our club at the moment so it won’t be a problem finding a bowler. 

“Shaun Thompson comes back into the team, so we’ll be looking to get some overs out of him.”

The clash will see the competition’s top two Twenty20 teams face off, with both sides topping their pools.

Wollongong won through to the final with a resounding victory over Wests on Sunday. Kieran Gray was the key man with the bat on that occasion, scoring an unbeaten 58 as they cruised to victory. 

While identifying Gray as a key wicket, Hearn is cautious of focusing too much energy on one player, such is Wollongong’s depth.

“They’ve just got a team full of stars, Kieran, Duncan Maddinson, the other Maddinson brothers, Dave Studholme, even Blake Owen can smack them. They’re a very good Twenty20 batting team.”
