The announcement comes as speculation grows about who the five businesses will be in the former Bunnings Warehouse site in Shellharbour, it has been revealed that the region may once again soon have a large specialty nursery retailer and baby goods shop.
Up until five years ago there were some large nursery retailers with warehouse sized stores in the Wollongong area. They have since disappeared after outlets such as Babyco, which had a large site in Keira Street, Wollongong, went into administration.
But excitement among new parents and parents-to-be is growing with the Shellharbour City Council website showing applications lodged for complying certificates at the former Bunnings site by Stockland including Baby Bunting as well as TK Maxx, Rebel, Ronis and Pet Barn.
Baby Bunting was established in Melbourne as a family-owned business in 1979 and is now regarded as Australia’s biggest baby goods chain.

Shellharbour mayor Marianne Saliba said this week that Stockland has DA approval to change the former Bunnings building from a single use role to five.
“What they are doing to the building is they are dividing it into five stores and putting five shop fronts on it. I think they have been working on it now for about four or five months. Dividers and doors have gone in for five entries”.
