PUBLIC TOILET STINK
I welcome the article in the Illawarra Mercury (January 21, 2019) regarding the state of toilets at Mt Ousley rest stop. I think the responsibility for the disgusting state of these facilities surely lies with the user.

While the RMS is responsible for maintenance and cleaning they cannot be held responsible for the feral people who use and consistently abuse public facilities.
Yes they should clean them more often, yes there should be cctv cameras installed, but to lay the blame wholly on the RMS is simplistic.
Surely the onus is on the user not to put the wrong article in the pan? Do these people do the same in there own homes? Do they put paper towel or nappies in there own toilets? I seriously doubt that they do.
I work in aviation industry and we see this on aircraft, people put blankets down toilets then complain on social media platforms that this is disgusting etc.
Seriously, bears do it in the woods and i will do the same rather than use public facilities that are abused by minority who engage in feral behaviour.

TAKING CONTROL BACK
Most people know that Brexit is the term given to the successful movement pushing for Britain to leave the European Union (EU). The main reasons for the push for a Brexit included a desire for the country to take back control of its borders, government, law making and trade arrangements.
In the referendum for Brexit or no Brexit, held on 23 June 2016, most British people voted for Brexit. Ever since then the British Government has been carrying on with a half-hearted attempt to make Brexit happen, partially because many in that parliament don’t want Brexit. In other words, parliament has so far failed to do what most of its citizens voted for.
William Bielefeldt in his comment ‘A Brexit Hangover’ (Illawarra Mercury, January 21, 2019) has made a weird, cryptic comment suggesting that some who voted for Brexit would have woken up one morning recently “with recriminations and a huge hangover”. Mr Bielefeldt, please explain.

A HOUSING SOLUTION
Just recently we watched a show on SBS , three part series called Filthy Rich and Homeless. What an eye opener about all the people who have nowhere to sleep or are just homeless, meaning really they have nothing, and it stated there are about 116,000 in Australia who experience this condition daily.
I couldn't help but be angry when I saw this as I have noticed places that could have been used to help people out like the West Wollongong Primary School, the old indoor cricket centre at Fairy Meadow or any dilapidated buildings that could be used to house people with no shelter.
Can't our council help in some way? The cost of affordable housing in Wollongong is at a low, which makes you think they could build or use areas to help our homeless find accommodation.
One can only make the suggestion, it's up to the council to take it on board and do something.
We also saw all the old trains being demolished when these could also have been used and converted into housing, showers and a cafeteria instead or just being discarded. Unbelievable.
