And Sean Wayland is bringing along fellow Australian jazz talents in drummer Andrew Gander and bassist Alex Hewetson, to perform at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music for the very first time.
The February 16 gig kicks off the Con’s ‘Jazz Series’ for 2019.
“We’re incredibly excited to be welcoming such heavyweight players to the Con to kick us off for 2019. What a start to the year,” said Con’s jazz series director Eric Dunan.
“It’ll be the first time either of them have played together at our intimate venue and the first time Sean has played his original music here in the Illawarra.
“It’ll be a real treat for jazz fans in the region.”
New York resident Wayland is widely respected and admired by fellow musicians. Some, including Dale Barlow (“Seany”), Matt Penman (“Waylo”) and Gerard Masters (“Sean Wayland”), have dedicated pieces to Wayland.
Since being awarded a grant in 1999 to live and work in New York, Wayland has gone on to record over 30 critically acclaimed albums and has played with a plethora of the Big Apple’s best.
The Sean Wayland Trio will perform over two intimate sets at the Con Auditorium.
