The carloads of gatherers, buckets and bags systematically destroying our waterways.
Constant phone calls to fisheries, no answer.
As a last resort yesterday we rang police. Result? One prosecution.
Sad thing is four escaped with a bootload.
This is a well planned pilfering exercise.
Police and fisheries are outnumbered.
Most unlicensed and the fines are not enough.
Thirty five people in a one kilometre area collecting.
It is time this destruction is stopped.
Our lake will finish up like other Asian waterway, an ocean desert,. Sad, sad, sad.

THE CONVERSION FACTOR
Well, one easy way is stopping gas retailers quietly doubling their gas hot water charges to households by increasing their conversion factor from 0.48558 to 0.99545.
This conversion factor is used to convert meter readings to Megajoules which in turn are multiplied by the retailer’s unit rate to produce the bill for gas hot water usages.
I live in a retirement community where a number of residents are reluctant to use gas hot water because of the inflated cost. Not all are being ripped off……”only” about half.
But even those who have not previously been impacted suddenly find their bills have increased by 53 per cent, as the wholesaler, without explanation or courtesy advice, arbitrarily increased their conversion factor using unrepresentative ten year old data.
I’ve tried to talk to my supplier and the wholesaler (Jemena) to no avail after five months.
So, I figure if I only pay every second gas bill, I’ll end up about square.
This is also an alert to any gas consumer in the Wollongong postcode 2500 area to check their recent gas bills irrespective of supplier.
If your hot water “conversion factor” is above 0.48558, then maybe you are being ripped off too.

BLUE MILE CHAOS
I refer to the comment by T Dunn, West Wollongong regarding the Blue Mile (Illawarra Mercury, Thursday, January 24, 2019).
My comment is that the problem and chaos on this path was not caused by cyclist only, but caused mainly by pedestrians.
Prior to the improvements I used to ride here quite often an had no problems.
Last Sunday I rode my bike here and I was dismayed at the chaos.
The directions on this path are hilarious.
Cyclists and pedestrians, people with stroller, kids on bikes, people with dogs, all used this path.
Pedestrians walking five in a line, cyclist as well, three in a line, kids on bikes, using the whole area, dogs on long leashes, barking and taking up a lot of space.
It is a disaster.
I suggest just separate markings for pedestrians and also separate markings for cyclist, is necessary.
On Sunday it was the pedestrians who were unruly and ignorant, and used the whole track.
I feared for my life. Change is needed.
