Late finishing road work at Heathcote Road near Engadine is causing heavy traffic conditions with queues on the M1 Motorway stretching back to Helensburgh.
The NSW Department of Transport is warning motorists to expect significant delays and exercise caution during their morning commute.
Northbound traffic is mostly affected and backed but there are reports from southbound motorists that they are also experiencing lengthy delays.
7am update from Transport Management Centre
All northbound lanes are now open on the highway however traffic control remains on site.
Two of the southbound lanes on the Princes Highway were closed.
Northbound traffic is very heavy and queued back onto the M1 Princes Motorway at Helensburgh.
There is also some heavy traffic eastbound on Heathcote Road approaching the Princes Highway and southbound on the highway.
Motorists are advised to allow plenty of additional travel time.
Traffic crews are on site.

7.15am update
Northbound traffic remains very heavy on the Princes Highway approaching Engadine.
Traffic lights are still blacked out at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Heathcote Road.
All southbound lanes have reopened and there is only the right turn lane from the Princes Highway northbound into Wilson Parade still closed.
Northbound traffic is queued over 13km onto the M1 Princes Motorway.
There is also heavy eastbound traffic on Heathcote Road approaching the highway.
Motorists are advised to allow plenty of additional travel time.
Traffic crews and emergency services remain on site.

8.15am update
One northbound lane remains closed and queues are now down to 7 kilometres as police direct traffic.
There is also heavy traffic eastbound on Heathcote Rd approaching the Princes Hwy.
Traffic signals are blacked out on site.
10am update
Northbound traffic is back to normal on the Princes Highway at Engadine after late finishing roadwork at Heathcote Road caused major delays from 6am.
Traffic lights are working again at the intersection and all northbound lanes of the highway have reopened.
Delays have eased, as well as eastbound on Heathcote Road and southbound on the Princes Highway.
