February is the month to celebrate seniors with dozens of free and low-cost events spread across Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama.

There will be a smorgasbord of activities such as fitness classes, craft, multicultural lunches and plenty of dance from February 13 to 24.
“It’s vitally important that we encourage everyone including those in their senior years to stay engaged and participate in events,” Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said.
Those keen for some toe-tapping can take part in bush dancing at Wongawilli Community Hall, line dancing at Oak Flats Senior Citizens Club, or new vogue and 50’s style rock and roll at Oak Flats Library.
There will be workshops on using Facebook, how to blog, accessing Shellhabour library digitally, craft and knitting workshops, seminars on seniors’ health and healthy eating, how to collate family history and skills sharing.
Seniors can get active with Tai Chi, aerobics, yoga and free entry to Shellharbour pools during the festival.

Intergenerational Speed Talking event which is pitched as a fun way for seniors and younger people to meet for an informal chat to share their culture and stories. - February 12, 10am - 12pm in Coniston. Bookings 4229 7566 ITEC building, 1-5 Miller St
The Art of Ageing exhibition at Kiama Library throughout Seniors Week during normal library opening hours. It involves a digital slideshow featuring stories, struggles, loves and lives of amazing seniors living in rural NSW.
Music of the 50’s and 60’s with an Italian three-course lunch will be at Centro CBD on February 22 from 12pm to 4pm - RSVP by February 14 (call 4228 8222). Cost is $27, with entertainment by Scott Radburn.
While Greek is the flavour of the day at the Wollongong Hellenic Club in West Wollongong on February 19, with a cost of $24.
The annual trivia challenge between Shellharbour and Kiama returns to Shellharbour Civic Centre on February 18. People over the age of 50 from either areas can participate, with a maximum of six people per team. Kiama teams to contact 4232 0448; Shellharbour teams to contact 4221 6007.
On February 21 the Kiama Library is embracing technology with a Sphero Art session from 10am. Seniors can learn to drive a robot and make a work of art at the same time – no experience necessary. RSVP by February 19 to the library.
On March 6 feathers and fun will be used to encourage seniors to strut their stuff in a relaxed atmosphere at the Shellharbour Civic Centre – gloves and boas provided.
