Illawarra’s Jordan Zunic fought back, almost to the brink of making the cut at the Victorian Open, but ultimately fell short at the Barwon Heads beach course on Friday. Zunic carded a four-under 68 to be -4 for the tournament, but it was still two shots short of seeing weekend action.
He made bogey on 16, before birdies at the final two holes pushed him up to be tied for 81st.
Zunic will now head to the World Super 6 tournament in Perth next week, a $1.6 million tournament which features a cut after two rounds and 54-hole stroke play, before the top 24 advance to a six-hole matchplay format until a winner is decided.
Fellow Illawarra professional Travis Smyth also battled at the Victorian Open, finishing one-under for the tournament to be tied for 121st overall. Smyth went bogey free in the second round, with two birdies.
Fit-again after a hand injury, Lincoln Tighe had narrowly missed out on the field as part of his medical exemption.
