THE LIGHT ARE ON ...
In response to Mr Dave Cox (Illawarra Mercury, February 5, 2019) raving on about businesses leaving their lights on at night whilst there is no business being carried on. It is obvious that Mr Cox has never been in business or has never been negatively affected by our criminal or juvenile delinquent elements within our society.

Businesses leave their lights on to deter such criminal elements from taking their hard earned belongings and property and or wish to advertise their business. Mr Cox appeared envious of the fact that businesses can deduct the cost of running a business against earnings through taxation deductions, well that is just a fact of life.
The second point he makes is the fact that electricity is used at night when the electricity generators are under stress, reasonable point, but the cause of this is because of the ideology of the Greens and his Labor cronies that are the direct cause.
We are a country that has an abundance of coal suitable for electricity generation, we have the raw material for nuclear power generation but because of ideology we won’t allow nuclear or coal powered generation but are getting more dependent on renewable ie wind and solar, both of which are very good under the right circumstances but unfortunately the sun doesn’t shine 24/7 and the wind doesn’t blow 24/7 either and consequently we get the “Adelaide “ syndrome called “blackouts “, a ridiculous situation in 2019.
So before complaining about lights being on at night for good and valid reasons, ensure that your complaints have merit on basis of fact not ideology or political affiliation. We are in dire need for common sense from politicians, scientists and technologists to give all Australians reliable, cheap and sustainable power 24/7 just like it used to be.

IGNORING THE EXTREME
In response to the letter by John Macleod, ‘No White Elephant’ (Illawarra Mercury, Thursday January 31, 2019), the Sydney Desalination Plant was not a brilliant concept. An idea based on the failed and exaggerated claims of climate change guru, Professor Tim Flannery. In 2007, Flannery stated: "Sydney's dams will never fill again while rainfall will be none existant".
And within a two weeks the rain filled Warragamba Dam to 100 per cent capacity. The Desalination Plants in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide are still in mothballs and have never been used. State governments have been responsible for building these plants and using millions of dollars of public money to maintain them. A far better idea in times of drought are water restrictions. And lets ignore the stupid extreme-greenies and build new dams in North Queensland so we can capture the thousands of liters of rainwater falling their presently.

ALL IN HAND
I noticed on the conclusion off commisioner Henry's report he was sitting had a table with incumbent Treasurer Frydenberg, report books were on the table and the media were there ready for their photo shoot.
Just as the photo was about to be taken, the incumbent treasurer put his hand out to shake the commissioner's hand, but the commissioner refused to shake it. Can anyone enlighten me why that would be?.
