And with the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecasting widespread, gusty north westerly winds and temperatures in the mid to high 30s, a total fire ban has been declared across NSW.
“We expect high temperatures coupled with sustained dry and gusty west/ north-west winds tomorrow. This will increase bush and grass fire danger conditions across the Illawarra,” RFS Illawarra Zone manager Superintendent Greg Wardle said.
The total fire ban, starting at at midnight tonight, covers all NSW Local Government Areas.
It is illegal to light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire during a total fire ban.
People who live, work or travel in or near bushfire prone areas should have a Bushfire Survival Plan.
“Under severe bush fire danger conditions leaving early is the safest option, however well prepared homes that are actively defended can provide safety for people who are organised and mentally and physically prepared,” Superintendent Wardle said.
People should visit www.myfireplan.com.au to see just how ‘fireproof’ their plan is and have a conversation with family around how you will implement your plan in the event of a fire or severe conditions.
