Lifeguards will be on duty for an extra hour so residents and visitors can swim between the flags longer.
Wollongong City Council’s beach services manager Paul Dreghorn said Tuesday was forecast to be particularly hot and the council decided to respond by provide people with an opportunity to cool off safely in the surf for longer.
“We’ll keep the flags up until 7pm at 10 of our beaches including Stanwell Park, Austinmer, Corrimal, North and City Beach and at Port Kembla,” he said.
“So if you’re fancying a swim after school, work or just when the sun isn’t at its strongest, during the day we encourage everyone to make the most of the additional time.
“But remember, if there are no flags up, then there is no swim.
“We want everyone to enjoy our beaches safely.’’
Stanwell Park, Austinmer, Thirroul, Bulli, Woonona, Corrimal, Fairy Meadow, North Wollongong, City Beach and Port Kembla will have extended hours.
